We've harvested your goodies for tomorrow and all the veggies are down in the shed ready for packing in the morning.
Just a quick heads up to let you know what's in the box (or bag).
Sprouting broccoli - lovely and sweet. Great steamed, but if you've never had it pan-fried in butter until golden, it's a must-try.
Spinach - great all rounder, but very tasty wilted through a warm roast veggie salad.
Kale - really versatile, goes well wilted through pasta sauces, soups or sautéed with butter and garlic as a side.
Radish - in small boxes only this week. Young and sweet. Can be used in salads or soups.
Kohlrabi - might be unfamiliar to you, but it is like a swollen broccoli stem. Delicious and sweet and very nutritious. Can be cut into matchsticks and stir-fried, grated in a coleslaw-style salad and the leaves are edible too. They can be sautéed or stir-fried like kale, with the stems cut into smaller pieces.
Fennel - one of my favourite roast veggies. Also lovely thinly sliced in a salad. Leaves can be used to flavour stocks or soups.
Silverbeet - another versatile green. Full of vitamins and minerals. Can be wilted through casseroles, pasta sauces, soups etc.
Parsley - delicious in soups, stocks, salads, sauces or chopped as a garnish over casseroles or baked potatoes.
Baby leaf salad mix - don't write off salad just because it's winter. Salad greens actually grow better in the cooler months and are so valuable in maintaining a healthy diet when it's cold outside. One of my favourite salad dressings is from Sarah Wilson's book 'Simplicious' and is made by mixing 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 cup olive oil, 1tsp sea salt, 1 minced clove of garlic and 1 tsp Dijon mustard. You could also add a small handful of chopped parsley. Baby leaf mix is only in large boxes this week.
Cauliflower - I'm sure you'll love these gorgeous purple cauli as much as we do. They even retain their colour when cooked. Full of antioxidants and so delicious. If you haven't tried it roasted whole, I'd highly recommend it. Otherwise it would make a pretty amazing creamy lower-carb mash with some garlic and butter, or an interesting cauliflower rice. Only in large boxes this week.
We hope you enjoy this first box.
